Deployment Profiles Explained

How AI systems are classified, constrained, and reviewed for use in regulated and liability-bearing environments.

Performance metrics do not determine whether an AI system is deployable. Deployment profiles define who decides, when systems escalate, how uncertainty is handled, and what evidence exists for audit and regulatory review.

A deployment profile documents how an AI system behaves inside an organization - not how it performs in isolation.

Common Deployment Profiles

Profile A - Decision Support (Lowest Risk)

Human-in-the-Loop Required

  • AI provides recommendations only
  • Human review required before action
  • Uncertainty explicitly surfaced
  • Full audit logs retained

Audit status: Eligible for regulated deployment

Profile B - Assisted Automation (Medium Risk)

Human-on-the-Loop

  • AI executes limited actions
  • Human approval gates enforced
  • Escalation for low-confidence outputs
  • Usage and overrides logged

Typical users: Enterprise operations, content workflows

Audit status: Requires formal risk review

Profile C - Autonomous Action (High / Often Unacceptable)

Limited or No Human Oversight

  • AI initiates actions without review
  • Limited or no uncertainty reporting
  • Weak override mechanisms

Typical users: Rarely acceptable in regulated environments

Audit status: High likelihood of rejection
